Mischief Managed, a Farewell Letter

Note: I originally published this letter on Wizards Unite Hub, which is no longer online. I’ve slightly edited the letter for Magical Gamers.

On November 19, 2017, I posted my first Witches Unite YouTube video, announcing my intention to cover Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

On May 22, 2018, I published my first article on Wizards Unite Hub, sharing tips for Harry Potter fans interested in Wizards Unite.

On July 9, 2018, I met with the website owner Zeroghan, and he offered me the role of editor-in-chief.

I had been running that website, the Twitter account, and the Facebook page ever since. And while I wasn’t as active in the Discord, I did magic behind-the-scenes to keep it running smoothly.

On January 31, 2022, Wizards Unite ended.

On February 15, 2022, Wizards Unite Hub ended as well.

Thank You

While I have managed a lot on my own, Wizards Unite Hub wouldn’t be what it was with just me.

Thank you Zeroghan for giving me this opportunity to lead, and for allowing me creative freedom to run this website and community.

Thank you to Fazes, who offered me an NDA early on, and who quickly became a friend. Thank you to Lola, who has also become a friend.

Thank you to the many writers over the years, especially those who contributed 20 or more articles.

  • Matt/Animagus
  • ProfXine
  • Markus (UnitingWizards)
  • Jose (The Latin Wizard), my amazing Spanish translator!

(For anyone wondering, I wrote over 250 articles myself, and I edited over 250 additional articles).

Thank you to the amazing moderators on Discord! Many have come and gone since 2018, but all have greatly contributed to maintaining an organized gaming community.

Thank you to my husband and to my friends, who listened to me vent more than once about players attacking me, thinking that Wizards Unite Hub was an official channel. Thank you to the readers who defended me on social media, pointing out that I didn’t actually have any control over the game!

Thank you to all the patrons on Patreon, which I closed at the end of January. I donated the final month’s donations to International Relief Teams. The rest of the money will go towards gift cards for Discord moderators and bonuses for writers.

Thank you to all the readers who left comments, especially ones offering player advice or pointing out typos. I’m a good writer and editor, but no one’s perfect! Oh, and I especially appreciate all of the well wishes after my surgery. I still have fatigue and twinges of pain, but I’m doing a lot better.

Thank you to the entire Wizards Unite community, whether you were active on Discord, Twitter, and Facebook, or whether you just quietly read our articles, or whether you joined my livestreams. The players are truly what made this game beyond special.

Finally, thank you to the creative and technical teams at Niantic and WB Games. While I certainly didn’t agree with all of your game design decisions, I truly loved Wizards Unite. I was a daily player, literally every single day since launch. The artwork, the animations, the story, everything–truly magical. I’ve always wanted to be part of the wizarding world, and Wizards Unite game me that chance.

Moving On

After four years of creating Wizards Unite content, it’s surreal to me to know it’s all over. Even with three months to prepare for this reality, it still hurts, and it still doesn’t feel entirely real.

But life goes on, and I must move on too. I love writing and editing. I delight in helping people. I enjoy filming videos.

My YouTube channel, Witches Unite, has transitioned to general Harry Potter content, including other Harry Potter games.

In regards to writing, I have teamed up with my friend Mark who created The Task Force Times. We have started our own website (that you’re reading right now!) to cover fantasy games: Magical Gamers.

Look for content on a variety of Harry Potter games, augmented reality games, and more. The exact games covered will depend on our interests, reader interests, and our (eventual) writers’ interests.

If you want to help me create more content, fill out this survey so I understand your interests.

I’m excited to continue this magical journey, even if it’s taken an unexpected turn. I hope that you will join me!

Final Thoughts

Running Wizards Unite Hub has been a labor of love, and I’m sad to say good-bye. I honestly spent several days working on this farewell letter, self-sabotaging because part of me wanted to hold on just a little bit longer.

For anyone who wants to relive some of the magic, this playlist is of my Wizards Unite vlogs. These videos feature other content creators and community members from the last few years together.

If you still want some magical merch, I paid a designer ages ago to create apparel designs based on the Wizards Unite professions. I’ve priced these on Teespring lower than any other HPWU fan creators. If you want any home good products, let me know, and I can add those to the store.

If you’d like to keep up with Magical Gamers, you can follow us on Twitter or join our Discord. The WizHub accounts are transitioning over.

Discord has a channel to share magical Wizards Unite memories. I’ve loved reading everyone’s stories!

You can also support me directly on Kofi. I’ll be honest, some of the sweet comments there have made me cry! I appreciate those even more than the donations themselves.

Many Harry Potter quotes can adequately address the end, but I like this one.
